“Amazing Animals” filled the night air with song, arguments and laughter at Louisa County’s 17th annual Halloween Hike held October 20 at Virginia Grove Recreation Area near Morning Sun.
The hike is a twist on the usual Halloween activities. There is nothing scary, except walking through the trails with only the light of a hundred jack-o-lanterns to lead the way. And participants don’t wear costumes, but the dozens of characters in skits along the way do.
Those attending this year’s hike were treated to young peregrine falcons getting tips from their mother on how to become the fastest fliers on the planet; a platypus arguing with Superman and Wonder Woman; a bald eagle and hummingbird debating the merits of their nest construction and the biggest monarch butterflies you’ll ever see (including one with a Minnesota accent).
Nearly 250 adults and children took part in this year’s hike which is made possible by the Louisa County Conservation Board and hundreds of volunteers, most of them young people.
