This wetland is popular not only with waterfowl hunters but also with eastern Iowa bird watching enthusiasts. Wetland bird species uncommon to southeast Iowa are often spotted at Cone Marsh.
The marsh is a combination of open water, cattails, bulrush and arrowhead. There is also some upland in restored prairie and cropland.
